Excursions are a fixed part of the programme. You will experience the built environment up close, gain inspiration and place design questions in a broader context. You will do this through various excursions, both in the Netherlands and abroad.
In the first year, you will organise a short study trip to a European city together with fellow students and lecturers. You will get to know each other and experience architecture as a spatial and physical experience.
You will spend a long weekend in an extraordinary location and work with different drawing and notation methods. You will train your observation skills and the collaboration between hand and head: vital skills for any designer.
In the second year, you and your fellow students will organise a study trip to a European city. You will arrange both the content and the logistics yourselves. You will also research current spatial themes and building cultures on-site.
At the end of the first, second and third year, the programme organises a final weekend. This is a short excursion to a place with interesting current developments or a fascinating building tradition. In recent years, destinations have included Stuttgart, Basel, Hamburg, South Limburg and Flanders.
The Academy of Architecture is part of an international network of architecture programmes. The Rhine Rivers Summer School is an annual summer workshop at one of the participating academies, for example in Strasbourg, Karlsruhe or Rome. Together with international students, you explore a current topic in one of these river cities.
