Accelerated Combined Route Bachelor-Master Arts in Education (part-time) - Zwolle

Why the accelerated Education in Arts route?

In this three-year accelerated route, you will spend 18 months following the curriculum of the part-time Bachelor of Fine Art and Design in Education (shortened track) and another 18 months completing the Master of Education in Arts. In the first half of the programme, you will be trained as an artist educator, connecting the roles of artist and teacher. The second half focuses mainly on researching social and societal questions within the context of new and inspiring developments in arts-based pedagogy. You will develop yourself as an agent of change, gaining greater confidence in your roles as a teacher, artist and researcher.

Teaching qualification and master’s degree

This double-degree programme is designed for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree from a university of applied sciences in the arts (for example, Fine Art or a Design discipline) and who wish to continue their studies. You will obtain both a second bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree, part-time. This means a broad teaching qualification and a deeper academic and artistic development. You will receive exemptions, mainly for the visual arts subjects.

In this combined route, the roles of teacher, artist, and researcher are inseparably linked – they reinforce and complement one another.

Create social impact

This practice-oriented and socially engaged study programme challenges you to connect your personal interests and expertise with relevant social themes.

After graduating, you will hold a broad teaching qualification for visual arts subjects in secondary and vocational education (VO and MBO), including CKV (Cultural and Artistic Education) and Kunst Algemeen (General Art Studies).

Strong link between theory and practice

Throughout this combined route, theory and practice are closely connected. The theoretical knowledge you gain will strengthen your position in the field and support your role as an arts educator.

You will become part of an interdisciplinary learning community and collaborate with a diverse group of fellow artist educators.
