About professor Seneca Block

Seneca Block, PhD, LPMT, MT-BC, is a board-certified music therapist and the Lauren Rich Fine Endowed Director for Expressive Therapies with University Hospitals Connor Whole Health. 

Dr. Block has worked as both a music therapist and program developer implementing several large scale healthcare system programs targeting pain and stress management through music and art therapy.
 
He is currently working on the implementation of music and art therapy into standard healthcare models including both general medical and psychiatric settings, utilizing his expertise in program development, pain management and community mental health.

Academic and professional background

Dr. Block earned a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Arts from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts as well as a doctorate in philosophy within the expressive therapy program at Lesley University, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His dissertation is focused on music, art and dance and movement therapeutic integration strategies, academic program design and arts-based research.

With over thirty years of experience in musical performance and training, Dr. Block also has more than a decade of medical music therapy practice and training in adult and behavioral health settings, including Mclean Psychiatric Hospital of Harvard Medical School, Tufts Medical Center and University Hospitals of Cleveland. 

As an established author, presenter and performer, Dr. Block has been the recipient of several grants and business proposals with strong financial stewardship of funds and systemic program directorship.
