After graduation

Your diploma

After completing the programme, you will receive a Bachelor's degree in Music in Education, and will then be able to use the official title Bachelor of Music in Education (BEd). This programme is registered in the Register of Institutions and Programmes (RIO) under code 39112.

A first-degree teaching qualification

Once you have graduated from the Tailor-made Music in Education programme in Zwolle, you will be an enterprising teacher who can flourish in a wide range of roles in both school-based and individual music education. With your diploma, you will have a first-degree teaching qualification in music, general art and cultural and artistic education, which will open up a world of diverse opportunities for you. In recent years, all students who have completed the Tailor-made Music in Education programme have found a job, including several as music teachers in secondary education, where there are plenty of vacancies. However, many graduates also find work as freelancers, by taking an entrepreneurial approach within the broad field of music education and creating their own work at existing cultural institutions or start-ups.

In the classroom

Perhaps you have already worked in education in some capacity. With this diploma, you will now also be able to work as a music teacher or teach arts and culture subjects. If you already have a background in music, you will have the right qualifications after completing your studies to pass on your knowledge and love of music as a teacher.

Other music education positions

Outside of regular education, you could work at a music school, set up your own music or art education institution, or become a choir conductor or ensemble leader. You could also write music methods, work for the educational department of an orchestra, ensemble or opera company, or set up social-artistic projects as an independent entrepreneur.

Entrepreneurship

Many of our students become independent entrepreneurs after completing their studies or combine a full- or part-time job with entrepreneurship. That is why ArtEZ puts substantial focus on entrepreneurship, both during and after your studies. If you would like to learn more about independent entrepreneurship, you may choose to start your own music education business within your graduation profile and conduct your own research.

Further study

If you would like to deepen your knowledge or specialise, you may choose to continue with a master's programme, either in the Netherlands or abroad. At ArtEZ, you could choose to take the Master of Education in Arts or the International Master Artist Educator programmes.
