In your fourth year, you and your fellow students will create a complete production. All first-, second- and third-year students in your programme will take part. This music production brings together all the competencies required of a beginning music teacher. You will write the script and arrangements, perform, sing, organise, and will be responsible for stage design, PR, sponsorship, theatre technology and ticket sales. You will also develop teaching materials to help local music teachers prepare their students for the performance. The show will be staged several times for the public − in recent years, audiences have reached up to two thousand visitors. Throughout the process, you will receive both artistic and business guidance.
In the first three years, you will go on an international cultural trip every year. You will take part in various activities and visit cultural landmarks. In the first two years, you will complete assignments such as giving a presentation or writing an art review. In the third year, you and your fellow students will organise the trip yourselves. Among other things, this will teach you how to plan a study week for secondary school students. You will receive both artistic and organisational guidance throughout this process as well.
In the Music Writing Workshop, you will compose for different orchestras. The orchestra will perform your piece under your direction, and recordings will be made of the performance.
During the annual Improvisation Week, you will spend a week working with students of Music Therapy and Music in Education in Zwolle towards a final performance focused on improvisation. You will take workshops in dance, theatre, photography and/or music from renowned guest lecturers from the Netherlands and abroad. At the end of the week, each group will present their results in a full-evening performance in the main hall of the Muziekcentrum.
Together with other Academy of Music programmes in Enschede, we organise project weeks for all students. You can take workshops on various topics, including stage presentation, production and mixing, film music, the use of technology, leadership and orchestral performance.
Musicians sometimes face huge demands on their physical and mental health. This is why we at ArtEZ pay close attention to healthy music-making, primarily during special project days and weeks. You will follow a series of classes on how to take care of your voice and learn how to recognise and prevent work-related illness.
