Making focuses on craftsmanship and experimentation, from idea to realisation. Meaning links theory and practice, teaching you to position your work in a broader context. Connecting helps you discover how to collaborate with others and prepare for the professional field.
The first two years focus on exploration and skill development. You will work on assignments, create drawings and models, and learn to evaluate your own work critically. Subjects include:
You will also follow practical courses in the workshops, such as woodworking or ceramics. In year 1, you will go on a study trip to Berlin together with all first-year students from the ArtEZ Academy of Art & Design Zwolle. In year 2, you will go on another study trip, for instance to Germany, France or Denmark.
In your third year, you will work on a ‘personal window’ (PW), in which you explore your role as a designer. You will also prepare for your thesis. Subjects include interior, research, entrepreneurship and design history. In your fourth year, you will work independently on your graduation project. You will create an assignment that reflects both your personal fascination and the questions of our time. You will showcase your work during the ArtEZ finals.
