If you pass the first round, you will be invited for the admission day at the academy in Zwolle.
What to expect:
- You will work on two assignments – one in observational drawing and one in spatial design.
- You will also have a conversation with lecturers and students to get to know each other. During these conversations, you will discuss your portfolio, your motivation, your home assignments, your inspiration and your creative process.
A team of teachers and students will assess whether the programme is right for you. They will look at:
- Your creative ability: can you translate ideas into images? Do you have a sense of colour, form and materials? Is there originality in your work?
- Your motivation and communication: what drives you? What inspires you? Can you demonstrate and explain this clearly?
- Your way of thinking and researching: are you curious? Are you willing to experiment? Can you look critically at what you create?

- Follow the Art & Design preparatory programme in Zwolle.
- Follow the programme’s social media channels for inspiration.
- Visit the ArtEZ finals to see work by graduating students.
- Immerse yourself in art and design: visit exhibitions and explore magazines and websites such as Metropolis M, Kunstbeeld, Frame, DAMn and Dezeen.
