Dance Artist - Bachelor - Arnhem

Programme per year

In the first year, you will be introduced to all aspects of dance artistry. This is divided into five modules: Landing, First Interpretation, Professional Creation, Creating Solo and Connection. Each period culminates in an individual or group final project.

You will reinterpret an existing work by a distinguished international choreographer and create and perform your own solo, both on stage and on location. You will also take part in performances by third-year students and collaborate on a distinctive interdisciplinary project with other ArtEZ disciplines.

Throughout the year, you will be consistently refining and developing your dance technique. You will also be introduced to Dance Theory, Artistic Research, and the professional field,  and begin to shape your physical performance.

In the second year of the Dance Artist programme, the focus shifts more towards collaboration. You will share a series of classes with School of Acting students and work together to create duets, both in a museum setting and in the black box theatre. You will continue to develop your bodily awareness, refining your craftsmanship and technical skills as you grow as a dance artist. In the second-year Professional Creation module, a professional international choreographer will develop a piece for your group, often through co-creation.

In the third year of the Dance Artist programme, the emphasis shifts to exploring and defining your artistic identity. You will conduct research and receive one-on-one coaching and supervision from an external dance professional or creative artist. While touring the Netherlands and Germany, you will further develop your performance skills. You will create a personal development plan to prepare for your transition into the professional field in the fourth year.

Your graduation year of the Dance Artist programme in Arnhem is your launchpad into the professional world. This year focuses on internships or projects, either in the Netherlands or internationally. You will take the lead in shaping your own graduation programme, with support from a coach you personally choose. Your graduation programme could include an internship with a company. For example, in recent years, Dance Artist students from ArtEZ have interned with companies such as (LA)HORDE–Ballet de Marseille, Tanz Kassel, tanzmainz, Theater Osnabrück, Poetic Disaster Club, Ann Van den Broek, Introdans, and Skånes Dansteater. You may also choose to develop your own method, initiate a project or create your own dance performance.
