Specific admission criteria for Trombone
In addition to the general admission criteria, there are also specific instrumental requirements. During the audition, you will perform at least one étude and a recital piece, unless indicated otherwise. The pieces mentioned are merely examples. You can also opt for other works of a similar level.
Your performing skills will be tested on the basis of:
- Technique: All the major and minor scales covering at least two octaves and including the natural tones (lip flexibilities);
- Several études involving different techniques, such as those of Vobaron and Kopprasch, Mueller’s Technical Studies, Part 3, Senon’s 24 Petites études mélodiques or Rochut’s Bordogni Vocalises;
- A recital of, for instance, Larsson’s Concertino for Trombone, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Trombone Concerto or Saint-Saens’ Cavatine.
