What you'll learn

You will develop as a storyteller, artist, animator and director. You will work on short films, journalistic pieces and informative animations. The focus is not only on technique, but also – and especially – on the question: what do you want to say? And how can you convey your message through images? You will develop into a versatile creator: storyteller, artist, animator and director. You will learn to work with traditional and digital media. This gives you the freedom to discover your unique voice: what do you want to say, and to whom? In the bachelor’s programme in Animation Design at ArtEZ Academy of Art & Design Zwolle, you will learn to:  

• bring your ideas to life in powerful moving images;
• use traditional and digital animation techniques to tell stories;
• build stories, make storyboards, animate and direct;
• reflect, research and deepen your work to create something truly your own;
• work and collaborate in a professional field.  

You work on many projects, both independently and in groups. You also collaborate with students from other programmes – from Illustration Design and Composing for Film to theatre and graphic design. This broadens your experience beyond animation film and helps you grow into a versatile creator. You are taught by experienced lecturers and professionals from the field.

In theory classes, you will develop your vision of animation and art. In the workshops, you will experiment with various techniques such as 2D computer animation, VR and stop motion.
