Vocals

The Vocals major is centred around your vocal cords as an instrument and part of your body. That’s why you will be trained not just in musical technique but also movement and vocal technique, studying approaches like the Estill Voice Training System and Complete Vocal Technique.

You will become an expert in various styles and genres and learn how to work within a band. This combination of theory and plenty of practice gives you all the tools you need as a vocal artist.

We expect you to be at a decent level by the start of your programme, so that you can successfully achieve the final learning outcomes within the four-year programme. During the admission process, we will assess your level and potential for development.

This is what you will do:

• Perform
  • Play at least two pieces that showcase your skills. The pieces must be from different genres.
• Listen and repeat
  • Play a fragment and ask you to sing it by ear as soon as you can.
• Reading music
  • We will test your sight-reading skills of a simple melody.
• Improvisation
  • We will assess your improvisation skills.
