When you enter a space, you immediately notice what creates its atmosphere. You see how light, form, material and colour come together as a whole, and you always have ideas that make a difference in how the space feels. You create designs that are unexpected and enjoy experimenting with turning your ideas into reality. You are curious about how you can develop these skills further.
The Associate degree (Ad) in Interior Design is designed especially for graduates of creative mbo programmes and professionals with experience in interior design. You want to deepen your craftsmanship and learn to design with an inquisitive mindset. You will have the space to explore – the focus is not on the end result, but on the design process itself. You will also collaborate extensively with fellow students, learning from and inspiring one another. During the programme, you will work together with students from the bachelor’s programme in Interior Architecture (which you can transfer into after two years) and with students from other disciplines in Zwolle.
This programme is right for you if you:
This programme is not about one particular style or approach. You will discover what defines you as an interior designer. Through research and experimentation, you will develop your own design style. You will have the freedom to try things out, make mistakes, reflect and start again.
You will work at your own desk in the studio you share with your fellow students. This setup allows for plenty of personal attention and close collaboration with your lecturers and peers. In the workshops, you will explore materials and techniques in more depth. What you learned during your mbo studies or in your work experience will be taken to the next level here.
The atmosphere of a space strongly influences how we work, learn, play, meet and relax. In the Associate degree in Interior Design, you will develop spatial awareness and design skills. Research is always the foundation – it provides a theoretical basis for your design process. You will become a designer who not only creates but also gives meaning through a solid conceptual foundation.
With a creative MBO diploma (or equivalent qualification), you can choose either the Associate degree in Interior Design or the bachelor’s programme in Interior Architecture. The AD programme lasts two years and focuses on creating atmosphere in interior spaces through light, materials and proportions. The theoretical component helps you develop narrative concepts and think critically about a client’s brief. The bachelor’s programme in Interior Architecture takes four years and goes a step further: it also helps you develop your artistic identity in relation to social and cultural issues.
