Tuba / Euphonium

Tuba / Euphonium

The Classical Tuba/Euphonium bachelor major focuses on teaching and basic orchestral, ensemble and solo performances. You are taught individually, but in group lessons you are challenged in both ensemble and technical skills.

The major-subject teachers work as Tubaists, enabling them to link your development to current developments in professional practice. They also have a large network. This gives you access to freelance work in brass bands as well as military orchestras and symphony orchestras during the course, and allows you to test your ambitions in practice.

Specific admission criteria for Tuba

In addition to the general admission criteria, there are also specific instrumental requirements. During the audition, you will perform at least one étude and a recital piece, unless indicated otherwise. The pieces mentioned are merely examples. You can also opt for other works of a similar level.

Your performing skills will be tested on the basis of:

    • major and minor scales and the accompanying arpeggiated triads;
    • two études such as Kopprasch’ 60 Ausgewaehlte Etüden (published by Hofmeister), Blazhevich’s 70 Études (King)or Vasiliev’s 24 Melodious Études (King);
    • a solo piece such as Frackenpohl’s Concertino for Tuba, Parts 1 & 2.
