Finals Design Art Technology: bring people and nature closer to each other with AI

Michelle Feelders tells us in a video how she wants to show people through film what impact AI can have on our planet. She graduated from the bachelor Design Art Technology and she explains her graduation project. “I believe that we, as humans, need some kind of guidance in our view towards artificial intelligence. Because there’s this collective fear for the doom scenarios that it can create. But there are also a lot of positive things and outcomes that it can create. For example, our planet is not going to last forever the way we treat it now. But due to technology, it can maybe last a little longer.”

One part of Michelle’s graduation project is the film “Through the Microscope Glass”. It teaches us about technology through a surrealistic world. She continues: “NXP is a company in Nijmegen that produces chips on microscopic scale. These are chips that are in your phone or in cars. They seem so immensely small and flat, but there’s actually an entire architecture hidden inside. I made a short, surrealistic movie that gives you the impression of walking through a microchip. As if it’s a landscape.”

The other part of Michelle’s graduation project is the film ‘Floranism’, which is inspired by the book Novacene by James Lovelock. She explains: “It describes our planet from the Gaia theory. So, everything affects everything. Based on this story, I continued with a future scenario where artificial intelligence brings humans and nature more together. In a more balanced society.” Michelle wants to show people that artificial intelligence can have a positive impact on our environmental problems – not just on, for instance, healthcare.
