Fine Art: a place to find yourself

“I’ve learned to work independently. To chase my dreams. To develop myself, to find myself.” Marysha van Hattem is doing the Bachelor of Fine Art at the AKI ArtEZ Academy of Art & Design in Enschede. In the video below, she shares her experiences and her final work as she approaches her graduation. “I think this painting shows the power of nature. All my paintings I worked on during the previous semesters are visible in this one. I’ve learned a lot of things. There are many elements from my previous paintings incorporated in this one, and I feel like it’s all coming together in one final work.”

Marysha states she has an urge to create, an urge to paint. “If I haven’t painted, drawn, or created anything in three days, I get this urge. I have to paint. And when I’m painting, I get to express myself. I get to be myself. And I get to relax.” She explains that a work of art is more than merely its description of being abstract or figurative. A painting for Marysha is a place of comfort, a place that feels like home.
