#finalsfriday 5: this week's highlights

The ArtEZ finals are almost over. With the emphasis on almost: this weekend, until July 10th, you can still admire the final exhibitions in Zwolle, where graduating students from 2022 and 2020 will be presenting their work. Prefer to stay at home? In this very last #finalsfriday of this academic year, you will also find some reading and viewing material for at home.

What are this week's highlights?

Graduates 2020

Until 10 July | Grote Kerk Zwolle

Graduates 2020 shows the graduation work of former students of ArtEZ Academy of Art & Design Zwolle from 2020. Due to the corona pandemic, it was not possible to organise a physical graduation exhibition at the time, but now they are exhibiting with two years of extra experience. The exhibition is about the visual work of a select number of former students who gained visual and narrative qualities during their studies and the period up to now.

The opening of the finals exhibition AKI ArtEZ captured in photos

On Friday, July 1st, the finals exhibition of AKI ArtEZ Academy of Art & Design in Enschede was festively opened. Many proud family members and friends, but also alumni and (former) employees of ArtEZ, art lovers, gallery owners and collectors came to watch the work of the new batch of artists and designers on the sunny day. Curious how it went? Then take a look at this visual report.

The taboos surrounding pregnancy

Miscarriage. Not being excited about being pregnant. Not being fully acknowledged when it comes to decisions during your own delivery. Those are all taboos surrounding the topic pregnancy that Anastasia Krylova talks about in her final project for the Comic Design course. Anastasia tells more about her work in our new story. Or come and see her work this weekend in Zwolle.

Andrea is uncrafting worth, one knitting stitch at a time

Don't feel like reading? Then watch this video about the graduation work of master's student Performance Practices Andrea van der Kuil. With her graduation work, Andrea wants to bring crafts to the public space. "Crafts are generally considered women's work. It is seen as less worthy than art, just as women are usually seen as less worthy than men. I wanted to work with that idea of value." Her final performance, and her experience during the master, can be seen in the video
