'When you start working on new a piece, play around like a child. Then put every bit of technique you have to work to tell the story you want to tell.'
About the teacher
I write music for choirs, ensembles, orchestras, and whatever crosses my path that catches my interest. I am a member of Splendor Amsterdam, with recent commissions from Philzuid, Black Pencil, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and the Netherlands Chamber Choir. I love working with - and writing - text, building dramatic stories where words and music bounce off each other.
My previous work inside a major symphony orchestra taught me how large ensembles actually run. I pass that directly on to students: how to prepare clear scores and parts so rehearsals run with as little friction as possible. I also teach basic composition techniques, giving them a practical toolbox to use to their heart’s content. As a main subject teacher, I guide them through their personal projects, opening doors in their minds they didn't know existed.
