About the Teacher
Imre Kruis studied at the conservatories in Zwolle and Rotterdam. He has performed and continues to perform with the Millennium Jazz Orchestra, Dual City Concert Band and Patrieck Bonnet. He can also be heard on Both Sides Now by Marjorie Barnes and the Millennium Jazz Orchestra, an album that was nominated for an Edison Award.
At ArtEZ, he trains the music teachers of the future and has developed into an expert in autonomy-supportive music education. A recurring theme in his work is his interest in the dynamic between teacher and student: how do you teach music while leaving room for the student’s own voice? Imre is a researcher affiliated with the Hanze University of Applied Sciences’ Research Centre for Arts Education in Groningen. He collects books and cymbals and runs marathons, with a personal best of 3:36:25.
