About the teacher
Soprano Claudia Patacca is a well-known and highly experienced singing teacher, coach and performing musician. Alongside her active stage career, Claudia has been dedicated for many years to nurturing the next generation of singers. Her mission is to mentor and develop young talents into professional singers who can make their mark on concert stages both at home and abroad.
She shares her extensive knowledge in the fields of opera, operetta, oratorio and art song. Many of her students have gone on to have successful careers. Since 2007, she has been a professor of voice in Classical Singing at the ArtEZ, University of the Arts in Zwolle, where she has also initiated and directed various (opera) productions, such as the successful 2026 tour of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas in collaboration with the ArtEZ String Ensemble, the 2013 operetta concert ‘Mein Liebeslied muss sein Walzer sein’, with several performances in Enschede and Zwolle, and in 2010 the opera Il segreto di Susanna by Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari with the Chamber Orchestra of Het Orkest van het Oosten (Phion).
She has given masterclasses at conservatoires such as the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, the Liceu in Barcelona, the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar, and conservatoires in L’Aquila (Italy), Tallinn (Estonia), Riga (Latvia) and Malmö (Denmark).
Claudia sang worldwide, from Germany to Japan, and her operatic repertoire comprises more than 30 roles, including Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Ortlinde (Die Walküre), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus) and Violetta (La Traviata).
Claudia has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Nedpho, the Orchestra of the 18th Century, PhilZuid/Brabants Orkest and The Nothern Netherlands Orchestra, Combattimento Consort and Phion/Orkest van het Oosten, performing works such as Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Brahms’s Ein Deutsches Requiem, Frank Martin’s Golgotha and Le Mystère de la Nativité, Poulenc’s Gloria and Honegger’s Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher.
Claudia made her debut with Poulenc’s Gloria, whilst studying, at the Muziekcentrum Enschede, and her opera debut followed shortly afterwards at the Holland Festival with Ernest Chausson’s Le Roi Arthus, conducted by Edo de Waart at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. This was followed by invitations from, amongst others, De Nederlandse Opera, Opera Forum/Nationale Reisopera and Opera Zuid.
She sang on several occasions at the popular Robeco Summer Concerts and the Saturday Matinee in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam in operas such as Hindemith’s Das Nusch-Nuschi, Rossini’s Semiramide and R. Strauss’s Die Liebe der Danae.
With De Hoofdstad Operette and various international opera houses, including Frankfurt, Halle and La Monnaie in Brussels, she sang roles such as Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Elettra (Idomeneo), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Ortlinde (Die Walküre), First Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Violetta (La Traviata), Frau Silberklang in Mozart’s Der Schauspieldirector, Fatime in von Weber’s Abu Hassan and the Flower Maiden (Parsifal) under conductors such as Simon Rattle, Antonio Pappano, Carlo Rizzi, Claus Peter Flor, Marc Soustrot, Ed Spanjaard, Jaap van Zweden, Jan Willem de Vriend, Jed Wentz, Klaas Stok and Ton Koopman.
At Opera Nijetrijne, she recently appeared in the title role of Salieri’s Armida in a highly acclaimed direction by Nynke de Jong, and toured the Netherlands with Wien bleibt Wien 2.0.
She has appeared on several occasions at the International Valletta Baroque Festival in Malta, performing a variety of programmes and musical theatre productions such as Telemann’s Pimpinone, conducted by Jan Willem de Vriend, Bach’s Kaffeekantate, Colin de Blamont’s La Toilette de Venus and her own production Lust, and Love Lost, featuring, amongst other works, Händel’s cantata Armida abbandonata in a direction by David Prins with Combattimento.
Claudia has recorded several Mozart operas for Brillant Classics, including the role of Vitellia in La clemenza di Tito. A special project is the double CD *Mélodies et Chansons* by Arthur Honegger, recorded in America for Centaur Records.
Claudia has a great love for art song and regularly gives recitals for organisations such as the Vrienden van het Lied, accompanied by pianists including Hans Eijsackers, Wouter Munsterman, Marien van Nieukerken and Jeroen Sarphati.
Claudia graduated cum laude from Saxion University, now ArtEZ, in Enschede, won the Tubantia Prize, and went on to study at the International Opera Centre in Amsterdam.
