About the teacher
Arend Gerds writes original music for a variety of ensembles and orchestral settings. As a composer, he has an affinity for both contemporary compositional techniques and more traditional writing styles, combining elements of both in his own musical language and sound.
He studied at the ArtEZ Academy of Music with Alex Manassen (NL) and at Montclair State University (USA) with V.J. Manzo, Robert Aldridge, and Ting Ho, where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in composition. During his master's studies, he specialised in music technology and audio software programming using Max/MSP.
He currently works as an independent composer, conductor, and teacher.
