Evgeniia’s artistic practice explores transformation, movement, and the intersection of technology with the female body. She works with materials that shift in form—such as clay, liquid metal, and glass—chosen for their ability to reflect the fluid, transitional nature of identity and embodiment. Her installations, sculptures, and per- formances create immersive environments where viewers engage in moments of reflection, ambiguity, or tension. Her work is rooted in a hybrid identity shaped by both Eastern and Western perspectives. She explores the boundaries between the human and the non-human, focusing on themes such as reproduction, corporeality, and the future of creation. Many of her pieces remain in a state of transformation—complete, yet appearing as if caught mid-transition—offering a poetic representation of change. In her final year of study, Evgeniia expanded her practice by integrating performance into her installation work. This exploration allowed her to test how bodily presence and movement could shift the viewer’s perception of material, space, and narrative. The performative element introduced a new depth to her work, intensifying both its emotional impact and conceptual resonance.

Artist statement
Evgeniia van Zonneveld is a multidisciplinary artist based in the Netherlands. Her practice spans sculpture, installation, and performance, often engaging with the transformation of materials and bodies. Working with substances like clay, liquid metal, and glass, she explores the tension between fluidity and fixation, using these states to reflect on identity, embodiment, and the socio-political implications of the female body. Evgeniia’s work is deeply rooted in personal experience and critical research, often addressing reproductive technologies, gendered labor, and the aesthetics of resistance. Drawing from her background she constructs layered narratives that question visibility, vulnerability, and the constructed nature of femininity. Her performances frequently juxtapose moments of stillness and movement, inviting the viewer into spaces of discomfort, empathy, and reflection.
