What to expect in the admissions process

  • First, you must register with an account on Studielink. Depending on where in the world you live and what stage of study you are currently at, you may need to submit a few important documents, such as a copy of your passport and your bachelor’s diploma. Studielink will guide you through this process step by step.

  • After you register with Studielink, you will receive an invitation to submit the application form with details and instructions to log into the ArtEZ admissions portal. The application form consists of the following sections:

    • A listof questions, where you will be asked practical questions about your preferences regarding the study and the audition, as well as questions about your educational and artistic background
    • Your motivation for applying to the programme. Based on a text prompt and several questions, you’re asked to elaborate on your personal motivation, preferred learning objectives for the Master, and any ideas for research that you may already have.
    • A summary of your admission programme, which may last a maximum of 15 minutes. Your selected pieces should reflect your current level and demonstrate a clear connection to the learning objectives previously mentioned in your motivation letter.
    • A personal introduction video. Who are you? What makes you unique? We encourage you to use all your creativity in making this video. However, please keep it short, sweet and to the point: the maximum permitted length is 5 minutes.
    • Pre-selection material
Different instructions for the pre-selection material apply to the Jazz & Pop and Composition for Film and Theatre programmes.
      • Jazz & Pop: 3 audition videos which should reflect your musical craftsmanship and talent.
      • Composition for Film and Theatre: Three compositions in either audio or video format. Two of these compositions should be accompanied by the pieces in score form. Make sure that your portfolio reflects the learning objectives that you indicated in your motivation letter.

    File submission instructions:

Video and audio: Upload your material to YouTube, Vimeo, Soundcloud, or another platform of your choice and copy/paste the links into the form's response fields of the application form.

For privacy reasons, you are allowed to set the video to “unlisted” so that only people with the link can view it. Just make sure the link is not set to “private.”

If you are sharing files using Dropbox or Google Drive, make sure the link allows direct access to the file and does not require requesting permission to view.

Scores: Upload your musical scores directly to the application form. Permitted file formats are Finale, Sibelius, or other PDF (handwritten scores also allowed).

Test your links and files in advance. If your links or files cannot be opened, your application will be rejected, and you will be required to re-submit your application form, possibly causing you to miss the application deadline.

  • After your application form has been submitted and it is determined that you meet the application requirements, your application will be assessed by two teachers from your chosen programme. Based on your pre-selection material, it will be determined whether you will be invited to do an audition. You will receive the result of the pre-selection no later than 2 weeks after the application deadline. If the result is positive, you will be invited to an audition.

  • After you pass the pre-selection round, you will receive an invitation for the audition at least 2 weeks in advance. This audition may take place either in person or online, depending on where you live.

After the performance of your admission programme, the audition concludes with an interview with the members of the admissions committee, during which they will ask you questions about your motivation in the context of your admission programme, your introductory video and the information provided on the application form. In the paragraph below, read more about how you will be evaluated during this segment.

The practical audition lasts a total of 45 minutes.

Assessment of your audition, motivation and learning objectives

If you expressly state in your motivation that you are looking to develop yourself as a craftsperson, the committee will strongly focus on your craft skills and the extent to which you could make progress on them when assessing you. If you intend to focus on composition or arranging, you will have to demonstrate your own compositions or arrangements at the audition. If you have indicated that you want to study a particular style, the committee will want to hear examples of that style at the audition. If you want to develop your abilities in multiple different styles during the master's programme, then you should demonstrate your abilities in those different styles during the audition.

  • After your audition, you will be informed of the results as soon as possible, but no later than 2 weeks after your audition. When admissible, you will receive more information on finalising your enrolment from the Student Affairs.
