Application and admission

If you want to enrol in the bachelor's course Graphic Design, the first step is to apply for admission. Learn about the process step by step and what to expect. You'll also find important dates, deadlines, and useful tips to prepare yourself.

You can apply for this course through Studielink. First, read the admission process for Graphic Design below. You can find general admission information for ArtEZ here. Once you've applied, you'll receive a confirmation email from ArtEZ Student Affairs. After that, the course will provide you with further details regarding the admission process.

Important dates and deadlines

The dates for admission interviews for the academic year 2024/2025 are:

  • Saturday 9 March 2024
  • Saturday 20 April 2024
  • Saturday 1 June 2024

Be sure to apply on time, so that you have enough time to complete the home assignments. You will bring these assignments with you to the admission interview. You will be given access to the home assignments after applying.

Admission requirements

  • Pre-university education (VWO), upper general secondary education (HAVO), secondary vocational education (MBO: level 4) or foreign equivalent level of education. You can be submitted with an international diploma, provided that the diploma is equivalent to a Dutch diploma. The Student Administration evaluates this before you are admissible.
  • This course is subject to language requirements.
  • Entrance examination pass. In this exam, we assess your chances of successfully completing the course.

What we test

  • Your ability to express yourself artistically, to work based on observation and conceptually. You have an understanding of and feel for colour, form and material. Your work expresses authenticity and originality. 

  • You have good communication skills, share your fascination and inspiration and demonstrate energy and discipline. 

  • You have an inquiring and experimental attitude, interest in art and culture and a focused interest in the discipline. 

This course not only enabled me to develop my own signature, it also showed me the power of design and that you can really bring about change as a designer.

Admission day

When you apply in Studielink, you choose a date for the interview. You will then receive information by e-mail about the admission day and the homework.The admission day for Graphic Design consists of two parts:

  • During the day, you will work on two assignments:an assignment based on observation and an assignment based on your imagination. You can take your work home with you afterwards. Bring drawing materials, such as graphite pencils and charcoal with you and also watercolour paints or coloured chalk. We will supply paper. 

  • The admissions committee consists of lecturers and students of Graphic Design.During the interview, you will present several homework assignments and a portfolio of your own autonomous work.You will explain your work and talk about the ideas behind it. Also bring your designs and sketches with you – they provide an insight into the creative process. Your artistic skills and your creativity will be decisive.The committee will ask you about your motivation and will also be interested in your knowledge about visual art and design.
