Study plan

You'll get the most out of this master's if you have a good idea of what you want to achieve and explore beforehand. We can help you with that. The admission process involves writing a letter explaining your reasons for applying and attending an audition. At the start of your studies you then draw up a personal study plan with your mentor. After that, we will do all we can to support you in achieving your plan.

Would you like to exchange ideas with us about your goals for this master's? Contact Cynthia van Ommen (conservatorium.zwolle@artez.nl).

Entrance examination

The entrance examination will take place in February or June and consists of a motivation interview and an audition.

Motivation interview

Your written motivation will form the basis of the motivation interview, which will last for approximately 30 minutes. During this interview, you can shed light on your choices and ask questions about the course. We will look if your ideas fit your ambitions, are realistic and feasible and suitable for a Master's level. In addition, attention will be paid to the research unit of the course. The interview will take place prior to your practical audition.

Audition

The practical audition will take 30 minutes and the audition committee will consist of three to five people. During the audition, you will present yourself as a musician and demonstrate where you are as a musician with regard to your plans. Your development opportunities in that area are the most important admission criteria during your audition. For example, if you have emphasised in your motivation letter that you want to develop traditionally, then the committee will judge you particularly by your traditional skills and the extent to which you can further develop in that area. If your plan includes composing or arranging, then you will have to play your own compositions or arrangements during the audition. If you have stated that you want to explore a certain style further, then the committee would also like to hear this during the audition. Do you want to develop across a range of styles during the Master's course? Then demonstrate a variety of styles in the audition!

Result and validity

The committee will announce their recommendation to the Examination Committee immediately after the audition. This committee will make the final decision on whether you will be accepted. You will receive a written notification of this decision. You will receive notice of the result of your entrance examination within three weeks. A positive decision is only valid for the degree course for which you have applied. If you wish to take the entrance examination for a degree course or specialisation at another location, you will need to register for this separately. Your admission is only valid for the academic year directly following the entrance examination. If you do not agree with a negative decision due to the procedure followed, you can lodge an appeal with the Examination Committee.

Registration

You must register through Studielink before 1 May. Registrations after 1 May will only be considered if there are still sufficient study places available. After registration we will send you a form and a format for writing your motivation letter. You will also receive information about the admission and the date you are expected at the Academy of Music.

Please note!

As a candidate master's student, you need to hand in your bachelor's degree certificate by 31 August, which is the day before the start of the ArtEZ course. If you have not yet received your bachelor's degree certificate from the institution where you completed your studies, you will only be allowed to enrol on the master's study programme if you hand in a certified statement from that institution evidencing that you have graduated and that the degree certificate will be issued at a later point in time.
If we have not received the original bachelor's degree certificate at least thirty days before the final exam, you will not be allowed to sit the final exam.

We advise you to start your orientation on housing before coming to the Netherlands, because finding good, affordable accommodation can be a problem in Zwolle.
