Admission

Master Fashion Strategy is looking forward to welcoming participants from a variety of backgrounds; critical optimists who are independent, creative thinkers who feel an urgency to research how fashion can play a fuller role in the production of real social, cultural and economic alternatives, helping fashion move towards a more honest and equitable reality for everyone involved.

 Admission criteria

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in any creative field, or you have any other bachelor’s degree and can show us your deep affinity for fashion through your portfolio and admission assignment.
  • Certain language requirements apply for this English-taught course. Please see below.
  • Portfolio, resume and short letter of motivation.
  • Applicants must have successfully completed the entrance examination. During the entrance examination, we assess your chances of completing the course successfully. You will be evaluated in terms of your reflective ability on the current state of fashion and how you consider your work to be relevant within the context of this Master course. This is evidenced in your admission assignment. You will also be evaluated based on your letter of motivation in which you reflect on how you can both benefit from and contribute to the Master Fashion Strategy course. We will admit a maximum of ten applicants for the Master Fashion Strategy.

Language requirements

You will need to prove your language proficiency by handing in a certificate stating your level before the admission interview.

If you need a residence permit to study at ArtEZ, the delivery deadline is 31 May!

Enrolment

You enroll via Studielink. After we received your Studielink registration, we will contact you and ask you to submit the following:

  • a completed application form (which we will send you)
  • your resume (CV) (in English)
  • a letter of motivation (in English)
  • your digital portfolio
  • a copy of your language test results
  • a copy of your Bachelor degree + grades
  • a copy of your ID (passport)

Submit a digital portfolio by email or file sharing service (e.g. WeTransfer etc.). The portfolio contains a coherent overview of former work, potentially consisting of free work, assignments, written articles, etc. Please note: we prefer to receive your portfolio as one PDF-file. After enrollment, you will receive an email regarding the further admission procedure.

Entrance examination

The admission committee will check submitted letters of motivation and portfolios, and after an initial selection, selected candidates will be sent an assignment. This assignment consists of an essay in which you reflect on your work, how it relates to the topics discussed in this Master course and on your future ambitions. After receiving the completed assignment, the admission committee will review this and invite the selected applicants for an interview with the admission committee, in the period April-May (see specific dates below). Applicants who are not selected for the second selection or for the interview will be notified within four weeks after sending the documents mentioned above. The entrance examination exists of an interview with the admission committee (Head of Master Fashion Strategy, a Master Fashion Strategy lecturer, and a Master Fashion Strategy student). For candidates living outside the Netherlands, interviews can be done via Skype.

Result and validity

After the interview, applicants will be notified within two weeks on whether they are admitted or not. If the committee needs more time to make an admission decision, we reserve the right to put the applicant on a waiting list. In that case, the outcome will be known within two weeks after the next admission date. Admission is only valid for the course for which you have enrolled. If you wish to apply for admission to a course or specialisation at another location you must register for this separately. The admission is only valid for the academic year directly following the entrance examination.

Non EU/EEA students that apply for a ArtEZ en/of Holland scholarship:

EU/EEA and other non EU-EEA students:

  • 2 March 2020 for EU/EEA - Enrolment through Studielink
  • 18 March 2020 - Submitting documents
  • 14 May 2020 - Admission interviews

You can no longer register for the 2020/2021 academic year. Application dates for the academic year 2021/2022 will be published in October.

As Non EU/EEA student, you must transfer a financial guarantee

Non EU student depending on scholarships: the deadline has passed for scholarships, please contact us in Fall 2020 so that we can guide you for academic year 2021-2022.

Non EU student not depending on scholarships: please send us your letter of motivation, resume and portfolio not later than May, 8th 12.00 hrs (Dutch time). After this deadline, please contact us in Fall 2020 so that we can guide you for academic year 2021-2022.

EU students who missed the deadline: contact Ms Rooijakkers as soon as possible for further guidance and send your letter of motivation, resume and portfolio not later than June, 4th 12.00 hrs (Dutch time).

Scholarships

If you are a non-EU/EEA resident, there are two scholarships you can apply for the ArtEZ and/or Holland scholarship. Deadline for both scholarships is May 1st 2020, so you need to be admitted before this deadline.
