Classical music creates a utopian world for me in which I can escape reality for a moment. It is like reading your favorite book: you empathize with the characters in a fictional world. While listening to and playing classical music, I connect with the ‘character’ of the music. At such moments, it feels as if I need nothing else in the world but my piano.

For my graduation project, I want to organize a benefit concert. It has always been my dream to touch people with my music not only on a sensory and spiritual level, but also
in a concrete, tangible way. By that tangible form, I mean that I can help people in need and truly make a difference for them.
I do not want people to just listen to me, but also to be part of what I do. Ultimately, I want to form a single entity with the audience and work together on a special event. I am currently considering organizations such as UNICEF and Amnesty International, because their work aligns closely with both my personal experiences and the thematic core of this project.
My motivation originates not only in my experience with development aid in Uganda, but also in my personal background. I have been living in the Netherlands since September 2016. My father, a former officer in the Turkish Air Force, was wrongfully arrested following the events surrounding the Turkish coup of 2016 and sentenced to life imprisonment. To this day, he is being held in Turkey.
This event has permanently shaped my view of the world. She made me realize how deeply inequality — both political and socioeconomic — can impact people's lives. While my personal situation touches upon human rights and political injustice, in Uganda I saw how the lack of basic necessities, such as food, clean water, and education, defines daily existence.
Despite these different contexts, for me the core lies in the same reality: people find themselves in circumstances over which they have no control, but which fundamentally shape their lives. With this concert, I want not only to make a financial contribution but also to create space for awareness and reflection. I want to show that involvement — no matter how small — can contribute to change.
The full proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to the charity and will not be used for my own expenses.
