My name is Amalia Houri, and I am a Ukrainian mandolinist. After sixteen years of practicing, performing, and searching for my artistic identity, I am proud to present my Bachelor Recital. For most of my life, my path has been decided for me by outside circumstances, fate, and war. I have known deep doubt, vulnerability, and times when I felt small and overwhelmed. In this project am transforming those hard experiences into strength. By stepping onto the stage, I am taking back my own power and embracing my true artistic voice.

In the first half, I will play one of the most difficult and virtuosic pieces in mandolin repertoire: Raffaele Calace’s Mandolin Concerto No. 2. Choosing this piece is highly symbolic for me. It shows themes of passion, transformation and doubt. I am grateful to share the stage for this performance with a wonderful string ensemble of musicians from the ArtEZ Conservatory, Vuurvogel Orchestra, and Hanzeorkest, conducted by Alexej Pevzner.
In the second half, the focus shifts to the power of community. I am thrilled to introduce you to the Mosaic Ensemble. Creating this group and finding our sound has been one of my biggest achievements during the time at ArtEZ. Together, we will play a beautiful programme of folk, Romantic, and Modern chamber music to show how art can heal hearts and bring people from different countries together.
This evening is about personal power that goes beyond politics, time, and space. Even though I have felt lost many times since I was young, I always find my way back through music and the musicians around me. Welcome to a celebration of beating the odds, overcoming fear, and finding your community.
