Join us for the first-years performances of the Politically Engaged Performance Making module

The Politically Engaged Performance Making module, part of program at the Home of Performance Practices, introduces students to key theoretical approaches in performance studies by mapping three central axes of inquiry: representation, circulation, and resistance. It engages with current debates in the field that emerge at the intersections of bodies—both human and non-human—performance as aesthetic and social practice, and the infrastructures that shape these relations across local, national, and global contexts. Through critical reading alongside writing- and performance-based experiments, the module invites students not only to analyze theory but also to actively engage, test, and enact theoretical concepts through diverse modes of research, practice, and presentation.

Through critical self-reflection and tutorials, the students continues to develop their political performance-making as performance-as-research. Focussing on transmissibility, presentation as unfolding, and dissemination as transformation. Reinforce that “presentation” is part of the research, not its endpoint. Recognise ephemeral knowledge and unrepeatability as impactful.
