‘Caution!! Bouwverkeer'/ EXPO 700 jaar Enschede

Ana graduated from the AKI this summer. For her graduation project, she immersed herself in the infrastructure of our densely populated country (where every square meter is cherished) and the vicious circle of building, demolishing, and rebuilding. The Dutch brick is omnipresent in this process. Ana created an archive containing metal brick reproductions she made of their counterparts on a construction site in Enschede, in a wall, on a pallet ready for use, or rotting away after demolition.

Ana's work is the final piece in the exhibition ‘From Citizen to City’. After all, ‘Attention! Construction traffic’ reminds us that history is interwoven with the bricks that build our houses, cover the sidewalks, and are left behind at demolition sites.

Exhibition ‘From Citizen to City’
How did Enschede become the city we know today? The exhibition ‘From Citizen to City’ delves into 700 years of local history. From the moment the city received its city rights in 1325 to the modern democracy of today. From Citizen to City is not a story about stones or borders, but about people. About cooperation, struggle, commitment, and the future.
