Experiment
Professorship for Art education as Critical Tactics
  • Partner(s): University of Amsterdam (Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis), University of California Irvine
  • Financier(s): ArtEZ, UVA, UCI
  • Started in: September 2020

This experimental project is focused on bringing together artists, scientists, and educators within the context of cultural analysis. Major theme is what we call, quoting Antonio Gramsci, ‘a time of monsters’. An in between phase where the old is not yet vanished and the new is not yet there and all kinds of ‘monsters’ appear. A time of crisis.

The research project will in the upcoming years result in a series of lectures, an edited book and a performance. As a metaphor for this time of monsters we use the image of Frankenstein, that we explore together in several meetings. The meetings are directed by ArtEZ University of the Arts, hosted by the UvA (ASCA), and connected to UCI Irvine. The long lasting goal will be in fact, building a community connecting critical theory with art-based research and learning, and the UvA someway  participating as a stakeholder/ shareholder in AeCT.
