Courses with English as the language of instruction
If the course you’ve been admitted to is taught in English, command of this language and the accompanying communication skills are obviously essential. Therefore, students are required to take an English proficiency test and hand in a certificate stating their IELTS or TOEFL scores. Further information about this test, where to apply and where to find a local language-training centre is available at: www.ielts.org or www.toefl.org.
Minimum requirements for Bachelor courses
IELTS with a minimum score of 5.5 (overall band score) or TOEFL 500 for all Bachelor courses that are taught in English. With an entrance score of IELTS 5 you can be admitted to an English taught bachelor course, but you will be obliged to obtain a higher level of at least IELTS 5,5 at the end of the first academic year.
Minimum requirements for Master courses
IELTS with a minimum score of 6.0 (overall band score) or TOEFL 550 for all Master courses that are taught in English.
For both Bachelor and Master courses you will be exempted from taking an English proficiency test if:
- You are an English native speaker, i.e. if you are a citizen of, or have obtained your secondary school leaving examination in one of the following countries: Australia, Canada (with the exception of Quebec), New Zeeland, the United Kingdom, Ireland and the United States of America.
- You have the EU/EEA nationality and you have completed all your secondary school education in English with sufficient grades.
For questions concerning whether you need to take the test or if you wish to request exemption, please contact internationaloffice@artez.nl.
