About ArtEZ

Quality assurance and recognition

Dutch higher education has a worldwide reputation for its high quality in teaching. A guaranteed standard of higher education is maintained through a national system of legal regulation and quality assurance.

As of 2002, responsibility for accreditation lies with the Netherlands-Flemish Accreditation Organization (NVAO). All degree programmes offered by research universities and universities of applied sciences are evaluated according to established criteria. Only accredited programmes will be eligible for government funding.

Evaluation

Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes  are regularly evaluated as part of the national system of quality assurance. This evaluation covers the content of modules, the teaching methods, the organisation of the teaching, the information and communications technology and other facilities, as well as the supervision of internships and thesis writing.

At ArtEZ, our objective is to provide arts education that is recognised as being of a high standard as based on international criteria. Our graduates must be able to contribute not only to the arts’ constant innovation but also to the quality of society. Quality care is an important way of achieving this goal.

DigOport
ArtEZ has been working with DigOport, the digital course portfolio, since 2003. This portfolio contains information about the courses’ objectives, programmes, teachers, facilities, quality care and results. In addition, it is used for internal quality care and for self-evaluation in terms of the accreditation process, which occurs once every four years.

The Education & Quality Department
The Education & Quality Department provides education and process-based guidance for projects that focus on the development of new education, the improvement of existing training and the submission of courses for accreditation. The Education & Quality Department supports lecturers, course co-ordinators, faculty directors and the Board of Governors vis-à-vis educational development and quality care.
