Music in Education

The Music in Education programme successfully combines playing music, singing and sharing the passion for music. Creating, conveying and working together also go hand in hand in this renowned ArtEZ School of Music programme. The programme starts by giving students a broad foundation in the field. Students familiarise themselves with various musical styles: from classical music to jazz and pop; from non-western to a lighter repertoire. Mastery of their main instrument, and their own voice, as well as other instruments enables our future music teachers to find work in a variety of fields.

ArtEZ also provides students with a broad theoretical basis: Our subjects on psychology, pedagogy, methodology and didactics provide a strong foundation for the different internships that students follow throughout the programme. ArtEZ has ties with primary, secondary, higher and special education schools, but also music schools, amateur choirs and orchestras.

Enschede and Zwolle

Students can study Music in Education in Zwolle or Enschede. A unique aspect of the Zwolle-based programme is its intensive collaboration with the ArtEZ Interfaculty of Education in Arts. This makes ArtEZ the only study programme in the Netherlands where students from all teacher training programmes – music, dance, visual arts and design – work so closely together. In Enschede, the Music in Education and Music Therapy programmes jointly offer the Remedial Music (OPMD) specialisation – the best foundation for a career in special education.
