MASTER OF CHOREOGRAPHY

Master of Choreography is a 2 year full-time (though partially residential) practice-led master study in choreography. Central to the programme is a practico-theoretical investigation of the tension(s) between dance improvisation/composition, process/product and materiality/immateriality. From within the individual choreographic practice-based research, students identify specific questions/problems that are then unfolded in three different but intimately interrelated discourses: The choreographic work itself, the written thesis and the branding materials.

Who is it for?

Master of Choreography is for artists who find a creative and critical ‘home’ in the above description. It is for dance artists who have already established a professional practice (at least 3 years), who wish to maintain it while studying, and who have the ambition and the need to strengthen and develop further their artistic voice. The artistic practice is the foundation for the research and it will, in a substantial way, inform how one’s individual study route and its contents are to be developed.

*Formerly Dance Unlimited (DU) was the umbrella name for the collaborative effort of the Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Arnhem schools. As of Sepember 2008 Dance Unlimited will be the name of the Arnhem programme only. DU has been accredited by the NVAO (Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders), the official diploma title will be "Master of Choreography" as listed in the CROHO (Central Register of Higher Education Programmes) with the special orientation of "choreography". A total of 120 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) will be earned during the two-year study.
